Keeping your knives sharp has never been this elegant and sustainable. Here’s how to use our Grês de Silves knife sharpener:
1. Remove the stone from the wooden base.
2. Wet it under running water.
3. Sharpen your knife by sliding the blade along the stone.
4. Clean the stone and return it to its base.

We’re thrilled to introduce the latest addition to the collection: the sandstone knife sharpener, crafted from Grês de Silves, a unique rock of the Algarve.
Formed over 200 million years ago and naturally tinted red by iron oxide, this sandstone has been used for centuries. From Silves Castle construction main material to industrial grinding wheels. Now, we’re reviving its tradition in knife sharpening.
Designed for both home and professional kitchens, this sharpener blends functionality with elegance. The wooden base adds a refined touch, making it a practical and pleasant piece.
Crafted in a creative residency organised by @hugodasilvadesignstudio for @cooperativaqrer under the Algarve Crafts & Food project, this piece brings together the expertise of Hugo da Silva –Designer, Bruno Matos @gres_de_silves expert and Bruno Martins, the wood artisan behind @twodogsportugal.

Formado há mais de 200 milhões de anos e naturalmente tingido de vermelho pelo óxido de ferro, este arenito tem sido utilizado há séculos – desde material principal na construção do Castelo de Silves até rodas de esmeril industriais. Agora, estamos a revitalizar a sua tradição enquanto amolador de facas.
Projetado para cozinhas domésticas e profissionais, este amolador combina funcionalidade com elegância. A base de madeira acrescenta um toque refinado, tornando-o uma peça prática e agradável.

Hotel Fitout Days are a mix of stress and excitement!
After months of planning, we finally unwrap the bespoke pieces we designed and others we carefully selected to bring the project to life. It is always rewarding to see as everything comes together, from furniture installation to the final touches with soft furnishings and artwork.
I’m grateful to work alongside an experienced and dedicated team who have been collaborating for years: Will Taylor – project management, Sarah Cleave – fitout coordinator & Barbara Mullings – Administrative.

Introducing... Milena Kalte. We had the pleasure of mentoring Milena during the course and residency we organized with @cooperativaqrer.
With a background in anthropology, our conversations encouraged Milena to deeply reflect on her life and experiences, channeling them into her creative work with esparto grass.
A transformative moment came during a visit to the Regional Museum of Algarve, where Milena discovered the traditional tale of the “Zorra Berradeira”—a mystical beast from oral folklore with no previous visual representation.
Drawing from this inspiration, Milena crafted a mask that is a mesmerizing blend of creature, and human-animal integration. More than a work of art, it weaves a narrative and creates an imaginative world, with esparto grass as its central medium of expression.
We are proud to showcase this elegant and evocative piece on our wall!

Last year, we were busy with another exciting project – the extension of the Polurrian Hotel, where we had previously developed the interior design. With planning permission now granted, we’re delighted to progress into the next phases on this journey!
This extension will feature a new swimming pool, spa area, events room, and additional bedrooms, all designed to make the most of the magnificent sea views over the Polurrian Bay.
We’re so excited to see this come to life in 2026! In the meantime, it’s back to technical drawings, material selections, and presentations. More updates in the next few months!

Last year, we had the great honour of being appointed to develop the interior design for the redevelopment of the Judges Lodges, including both public areas and bedrooms.
This Grade II listed property, situated on the north side of Castle Hill in Lincoln, holds remarkable historical significance, having been built circa 1810 by William Hayward.
As with any listed building, we have approached this project with the utmost care and respect for its heritage. It is a true privilege to contribute to the transformation of such an iconic landmark, blending timeless craftsmanship with contemporary design.
We are incredibly proud to be part of this prestigious endeavour.

While 2024 was filled with unforgettable moments, one trip brought me immense joy and inspiration! We travelled through California, exploring everything from mountains to deserts, bustling cities to charming villages.
A standout design highlight was visiting an iconic site in LA – The Eames House, also known as Case Study House No. 8. This landmark of mid-20th-century modern architecture was designed and built in 1949 by the renowned duo Charles and Ray Eames as their home and studio. The experience was truly unforgettable!
